Wildlife Exclusion Services

Wildlife Exclusions

Whether your home is being invaded by bats, squirrels, or rodents, J Douglass Wildlife Handyman will be there to solve all of your wildlife concerns. These critters can be problematic for not only your home, but for your family. They chew their way into your attic and crawl spaces in order to find a safe place to have their babies. This causes damage to the exterior of your home and can be quite noisy during the middle of the night. We strategically identify the entry points during our home inspection and install an excluder with a one-way door that can allow the wildlife to leave and not return. We will follow up with a second visit to remove the excluder and seal the entry points. You can rest easy knowing you are not sharing your living space with these troublesome critters.

Flying Squirrels

Flying squirrels can be a very noisy problem for homeowners. Despite their name, they do not fly like birds or bats. Instead, they glide from one tree to another, reaching speeds up to 30mph. Most homeowners start to notice these nocturnal creatures in the fall and winter when they make their way into people’s homes to start having their young. People usually hear peak activity in their attics from 8 pm to 4 am. These problematic creatures are very noisy, and the squirrel babies will return the following year to the same location to start having their young. This means there can be several generations of flying squirrels living in your attic! How do we solve your flying squirrel problem? We strategically identify the entry points into the home and install an excluder with a one-way door. The flying squirrels are only able to leave your house without re-entering. After we have assured that all flying squirrels have left the premises, we remove the excluder and seal the original opening. We also trim nearby trees to help control these squirrels’ traffic patterns back to your home. We can offer a few warranty options to give you peace of mind for the future.

Bats

Did you know Little Brown Bats are actually an endangered and protected species in North America? Over 90% of the population has declined due to a fungal infection called White-Nose Syndrome, which causes bats to wake up from hibernation and drain their essential fat reserves. Regardless of being an endangered species, these little critters can be very problematic for homeowners. They can be seen roosting in the gable vents and causing scattered droppings on the siding and the ground below. These little creatures cause a big mess! They can also carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans, and very rarely they can actually expose humans to the deadly virus called Rabies. Since bats are a protected species, there are certain times of the year they legally cannot be excluded from your home since they are caring for their young. This time can vary annually but usually falls between April and August. How do we solve your bat problem? We hang a one-way “bat curtain” over the location where the bats are roosting. This allows the bats to safely exit your home without returning. Several days later, the bat curtain is removed, and we seal up the openings so no future bats can become a problem for you and your family.

Gray Squirrels

Gray squirrels are native to North America and can be seen all over North Georgia. They are known for having exceptional long-term memory recall, which helps them to know where they stored their winter food and to relocate your house to raise their young! Grey squirrels are less noisy than flying squirrels and typically show an increased activity level during the daytime hours. Typically, grey squirrels are problematic in the spring and fall seasons. They like to chew their way into your soffits and fascia boards to nest for their expecting litters. Grey squirrels are excluded just like flying squirrels by using excluders and sealing the openings. Trimming trees is essential to help prevent these critters from re-entering your home.

Rodents

Rodents like to make their way into your home to look for food sources such as bird feeders, pet food dispensers, and open trash containers. Rodents can be heard during all hours of the day, and are known for reproducing extremely fast. A three-week-old mouse can have anywhere from two to eighteen babies at one time! A small rodent issue can turn into a substantial problem in a very short period of time. Depending on the foundation of your house, various techniques are used to rid the rodents from your home and seal up the entry points. Many people ask if we use poison to control the rodent population. Poison is not one of our recommended or utilized techniques for eliminating your rodent problem. It is also essential to clean the home and minimize food sources for these critters. Rodents are known for spreading disease, and we want to provide a safe home for you and your family.

In addition to wildlife services, we offer a variety of handyman services. We provide gutter cleanouts, installing gutter guards, tree trimming, and other minor home repairs.
